What You’ll Learn
Creating Resilient Systems During Climate Chaos

Permaculture Design begins and ends with profound observation of the natural world. It’s all about turning problems into solutions! We’re in a time of great transition and climate chaos – what an opportunity to ally ourselves with Nature and learn the skills of how to create positive, lasting, and fruitful change in our landscapes and communities.

Explore processes of ecological regeneration in the wake of human disturbance, and learn how to assess, design and implement systems that are truly sustainable.

Our teachers share results of their cutting-edge work and how they’ve embraced Nature’s unsurpassed ability to adapt and thrive in the most adverse circumstances.

Lead Instructor: Ron Berezan

Ron Berezan, aka “The Urban Farmer” (www.theurbanfarmer.ca) has been a permaculture teacher and practitioner for the past 15 years. He trained under Gregoire Lamoureaux (Kootenay Permaculture Institute) and Brock Dolman/Penny Livingston (OAEC) and is a certified designer and teacher through the Permaculture Institute of North America (www.pina.in). Ron has taught permaculture, organic gardening and urban agriculture and facilitated community food security projects throughout Canada. He has developed a very close working relationship with the agroecokogy and permaculture movements in Cuba and has taken 27 groups to learn from Cuban experts and practitioners. Ron is cofounder of the Sycamore Commons Community Permaculture project in Powell River (Tla’Amin Traditional Territory) – a permaculture demonstration project that provides an abundance of food, learning, and community connections for people in the region. He has been fostering a permaculture food security project at the Kanaka Bar First Nation in the Fraser Canyon for the past three years. Ron is also a cofounder of Blueberry Commons Farm Cooperative in Powell River – an emerging eco-village on 16 acres of land on the edge of Powell River. Ron also makes and sells biochar (see www.thegoodearth.co). Soils, plants, food forests, passive greenhouse design and social permaculture are some of the things that Ron is currently very excited about!
