Who is Permaculture BC?

Javan was an excellent facilitator. He created a welcome, comfortable environment for learning. I appreciated the stretching and hand/mind co-ordination exercises to keep the mind and body stimulated through a long day of sitting and absorbing. These kinds of little details are often overlooked in many learning environments. The extra effort Javan put in to enhance our experience was very helpful. Javan also did a good job at expressing what he needed from us to make the workshop a success (tidying up, taking care of ourselves etc). I felt like the pace was good, and the workshop was well organized. The snacks were amazing!

Taking one of Javan's courses really makes you feel like you are learning to take responsibility for your actions and helping to leave the world a better place than when you found it. Javan is looking at his courses from the student's perspective. He wants you to have the right learning environment to get everything you can out of the course. I really recommend taking a course through Permaculture BC, having Javan facilitate the course, while letting the instructor focus on getting the information across is a great way to run a course.

I thought Permaculture BC did an amazing job in bringing in the right person to the right audience. Javan has high energy and makes it fun for people to participate and feed off of his charisma.

I would say just sign up! Not only did I network with many like-minded people but I got a chance to learn from a speaker with tons of experience. Javan K. Bernakevitch was a great workshop facilitator. He is an organized, mindful and talented speaker.

Permaculture BC is the only educational venue that I am aware of that offers workshops/courses/talks about such a variety of permaculture-related topics. I have also been impressed at the quality of the instructors/speakers involved. I've only learned about Permaculture BC recently, but plan to keep my eye out for other workshops in the future.

Javan is a wonderfully outspoken individual with an immense enthusiasm for his work. The combination of hard core facts and information and humor is a great time all around and a wonderful learning environment. I thoroughly look forward to future courses, specifically if the 2nd level of food forestry is offered. The courses offered through Permaculture BC are an amazing contribution to this community and are critical in this time of critical mass and our approaching environmental resistance.

Javan's bubbly, easy-going personality lights up the room and matches his skill as a facilitator and permaculturelist perfectly. But beware, his enthusiasm can be dangerously contagious!

Javan's enthusiasm and passion for permaculture were inspiring. he made me think that anyone can garden and grow there own food. He told many stories about gardeners that he has worked with and was so excited to share the knowledge he gained from them. I plant to sign up myself and my partner for the upcoming Permaculture Design Course.

Javan has one of those voices that you could listen to for hours. Great sense of humour too.

Javan talks about doing, and then shows you how to make things happen. Not later. NOW. His presentation skills are engaging, entertaining, and above all informative. You'll walk away feeling heat on your butt from the fire he lit under you! If you are seriously interested in going from a PDC to a permaculture business, look no further.

It's a pleasure and a privilege to meet someone who lives, breathes, and loves what they teach so completely. Javan's approach to permaculture is rooted in experience - it's gritty, practical, authentic, profound, and very often hilarious. No matter how much or little we knew about permaculture when we arrived, Javan had a way of meeting us where we were with exactly the right lesson or demo or story to help us take it to the next level. I left every single one of his classes feeling deeply inspired and better equipped to live creatively and skillfully in this world. Much gratitude!

Since leaving school I have been taught by numerous teachers and instructors in the german forces, at scuba/sky diving and sailing. In each case I became an instructor myself. I attended University in England and later had the chance to go back there to teach journalism and filmmaking after many years of working for the BBC all over the world. Out of all those tutors three also became my mentors. Albeit only having Javan as my permaculture teacher for 6 weeks, he is one of them. Javan does not stop teaching when the class is over. His integrity, demeanour and total honesty enriched my life every time he was present. And present he his! Clear, sharp, focused, utterly reliable. He turned up for every class well on time and perfectly prepared. Who needs Wikipedia when Javan is around? However, instead of being this nerdy superbrain he is the well grounded, social and sensitive type. He helped me find my holistic goal, see the comprehensive complexity of Permaculture and life. Javan leads by example and I am very grateful for all that he has given to me as a teacher and contemporary and I therefore highly recommend to anyone to have him help you with your project or course.
